Cut and sewn in California
100% Cotton
Thick rope-like strands are woven into a big weight and even bigger texture fabric that pays homage to a historically significant sewing technique. We offer it at our best value for a style like this. The Indigo Monster Sashiko 5 Pocket.
Note: We recommend sizing up one from your usual Gustin size.
The inspiration for this style is the traditional Sashiko sewing technique. Used as a functional sewing technique for repairs and decorative effects, Sashiko is respected for its handmade style, prominent stitching and patterning effects. This style uses a Dobby weave to recreate the prominent stitch and geometric lines and then dials up the texture to absolutely beautiful levels. Imagine the plushest cotton rope interlaced together to create a hand woven look, huge texture and flowing feel. That's what we have here. Even better is the rugged 12 ounce weight, giving this style true vintage appeal. This beautiful indigo fabric starts out a dark inky blue and ages beautifully like a pair of raw denim. Pants can be darker in person. Dye bleed is expected with this piece.

"It's an interesting look and texture. It was a risky choice to pick blind, but I am very happy with them. Solid quality and look. The color and texture are great. Very happy."

"These pants have really won me over—the Indigo Monster Sashiko 5 Pocket is something special. The fabric feels substantial, with those thick rope-like strands woven into a hefty weight and bold texture that stands out visually, nodding to a historically significant sewing technique. It has a polished, dressy look overall, but the 5-pocket design gives it that fun duality, like a mullet haircut: business up front, party in the back. I had them hemmed for a pronounced break, and they look sharp with my White's boots, Alden's, and Nicks. My seamstress was genuinely impressed by the solid construction and fabric quality. I usually wear a 32 in Gustin jeans, so I was a bit nervous sizing up to the recommended 33, but it worked out well in the end."

"Beautiful quality and attention to detail. The photos may make them appear to be brighter than they are; in daylight, the indigo color is obvious but I'd say darker than the photos suggest. Be sure to follow the care instructions.
As far as size goes, I am a 29W at typical clothing brands, so I ordered a 30W here. This works, but in hindsight, I'd go with 31W just for maximum comfort.
Limited inseam lengths is the one downside, so I have to have all of my Gustin pants tailored."

"Beautiful understated fabric that's as dressy as the rest of your outfit.
The texture patterning is not as showy as the pictures, especially at night, so are perfect for adding a bit of extra to whatever you're wearing. You feel the texture when wearing, but material is soft, so it's an overall dressed down feeling.
About the same level of stretch as normal denim, but not as dense, so much faster break in (first wear) and overweight folks like myself may want to size up so they lay evenly, especially the button fly.
The stretch level also means that i didn't have to get the pants hemmed or cuffed, as the but if extra material breaks just shows off the texture even more.
Does attract a bit more dust, but easily brushed off.
Overall a very solid addition to the rotation."
